China Machine, Inc. Featured in Industry Week

China Machine in Industry Week

China Machine is featured in Industry Week this week.

China Machine has served the metal cutting industry for 57 years. This woman-owned New York-based manufacturer of computer-numerical control (CNC)-machined parts supplies a variety of industries worldwide, including power generation, oil and gas, transportation, mining and food processing.

When changes in the oil and gas and power generation industries threatened to adversely impact China Machine, Inc.’s revenues, the company decided to expand into the aerospace & defense (A&D) industry. China Machine, Inc.’s leadership team knew that expansion into this industry would be complicated and the company would face more stringent certification requirements, but the A&D industry was the company’s best avenue for growth.

China Machine is Successfully Recertified to ISO 9001-2008

On March 12, 2015 China Machine, Inc. received recertification from Lloyd’s Register Group to the ISO 9001-2008 International Standard for Quality Management Systems. Our active participation and certification to this ISO standard has been continuous since March of 1994. The recertification is for three (3) years expiring on March 31, 2018. At that time, certification to a revised standard, ISO 9001-2015 will go into effect. The compliance audit conducted in February of 2018 will be to this revised standard. The STEP Awards honor women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their careers and represent all levels of the manufacturing industry, from the factory-floor to the C-suite. The Manufacturing Institute will honor 100 women at this year’s awards. The Honorees’ companies are of all sizes and represent varying sectors of manufacturing.

“This year’s award recipients are the faces of exciting careers in manufacturing,” said Jennifer McNelly, president, The Manufacturing Institute. “We chose to honor these women because they each made significant achievements in manufacturing through positive impact on their company and the industry as a whole. “The STEP Awards are part of a larger STEP Ahead initiative, launched to examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry that focuses on the attraction, development, advancement, and retention of high potential female talent.”

A recent study by Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute found that 80 percent of U.S. manufacturing companies report a moderate to severe shortage of qualified applicants for skilled and highly skilled production positions. STEP Ahead is designed to help improve the retention of existing female talent and highlight role models that can help raise awareness about careers for women in manufacturing. Currently, women represent 25% of all manufacturing employees but 51% of the potential workforce.

On March 26, The Manufacturing Institute will recognize Eileen and the other recipients of the STEP Awards at a reception in Washington, D.C. The STEP Awards program will highlight each Honoree’s story, including their leadership and accomplishments in manufacturing.

Latest Machine Tool Acquisition-Mazak Quick Turn Nexus 550MY Lathe

Mazak Quick Turn Nexus 550MY Lathe for large component turning

In mid-February, China Machine will be installing a new Mazak Quick Turn Nexus 550MY Lathe.  This new machine tool acquisition will further enhance our large component turning capability with its 33.5” swing diameter and 120” travel.

The unit features live tooling as well as a built-in boring bar capable of boring 31.5” that can be used simultaneously with outside machining operations. This will positively impact cycle time for many parts that we routinely manufacture.

This is another step being taken by China Machine, Inc. to continually expand capabilities as well as maintain the latest technology equipment to support the demand for our products.
